Seed Pod formation in Cross - and Self - Pollinated Cymbidium kanran native to cheju and the Rhizome formation on Various Media

Abstract
Experiments were carried out to examine the rates of pod formation and asymbiotic seed germination in cross-and self-pollinated Cymbidium kanran natives of Cheju. The average pod formation rate of Cymbidium kanran was 75.0% in the self-pollinated plants and 66.7% in the cross-pollinated. The average fertility rate of the seeds from self-pollinated flowers was 50.0% and 53.3% from the cross-pollinated ones. The seeds from cross-pollinated flowers took 106 (59¡174) days and those from the self-pollinated took 164 (68¡329) days for germination. The rhizome formation from the asymbiotically-germinated seeds required 12 to 32 months depending upon the medium sources. Murashige and Skoog liguid medium was found the most effective for rhizome formation. Rhizome formation up to 0.5 §¯ in length required about 12 months and the rate was about 40%.
